ITU Telecom World 2006 was held in Hong Kong this week, Theo does a report of the show just for "Palm lovers". ACCESS was there showing off the Access linux Platform (ALP) as well as a few Palm OS Treos. The Xplore m70 also made an appearance.

ACCESS has revealed in a recent statement that the initial release of the Access Linux Platform has been delayed. PalmSource previously stated that the ALP software developer kit would be available by the end of 2006, ACCESS is now targeting a release for "sometime in the first half of 2007."

Linux has been mentioned as a potentially leading platform for mobile devices for as long as there have been mobile devices. However, mobile Linux is still largely missing in action. Maureen O'Connell an ACCESS spokesperson, has issued a statement to PalmInfocenter clarifying the timing of the release of the ACCESS Linux Platform. She says ACCESS has previously stated that they plan to deliver a pre-release version of the ACCESS Linux Platform PDK to select licensees, and a pre-release version of the ACCESS Linux Platform SDK to select registered developers before the end of this year, and that general availability would be in the first half of 2007.

ACCESS is showing ALP v1.0 running on Marvell PX3xx applications processor and the OMAP platform from Texas Instruments. They are also showing telephony, messaging and multimedia entertainment demos.
