In the latest round of flash memory wars, Sony announced their surprisingly expensive 8gb Memory Stick Pro Duo. Primarily designed for PSP owners running firmware 2.81 or later, this card capacity goes a long way towards addressing the PSP's lack of internal storage space.

With no PSP redesign rumors emerging, this might be as good as it gets for the PSP faithful--at least until 16gb+ cards arrive later in '07.

But with 8gb SDHC (aka SD 2.0) and CompactFlash card prices plummeting, Sony and Sandisk may have to do some serious price cutting to keep pace. Despite the dearth of hardware supporting SDHC, 8gb SDHC are actually beating out the venerable CompactFlash cards in pricing. read more »

Philips Consumer Electronics has registered a Linux-powered WiFi videophone with the FCC, for possible U.S. distribution. The Visiophone VP6000 and its earphone-jack- and TV-out-equipped sibling, the VP6500, run Linux on an ARM9-based Freescale i.MX21 processor, and feature vendor-initiated firmware updates. read more »

It’s not only your expensive game consoles that need firmware updates to iron out creases in the system. The official firmware for the T-Mobile Dash windows mobile 6 upgrade has been leaked. It's the official T-Mobile release, so there shouldn't be any compatibility problems from having another device's ROM. Gizmodo is the only site with the cajones to include a download link. read more »

A new firmware update is available for the Nokia N76. Continuing the trend set with other devices the update adds the A2DP and AVRCP Bluetooth Profiles for stereo audio over Bluetooth.
