The Nokia N800 is now for sale at some CompUSA stores for $399.99. This new model is a substantial upgrade to the Nokia 770. Updates include increasing the RAM from the older model to 128 MB and its flash memory to 256MB. The processor has also been given a kick in the pants with an increase in speed from 220MHz to 320MHz.

The new tablet also boasts a VGA (640x480) resolution web cam. The microphone has also been moved to make the unit more friendly as a phone. The unit also has two SD (Secure Digital) flash memory card slots, whereas the 770 only had a single RS-MMC (reduced size multimedia cards) slot. read more »

The N800 is an evolutionary step above the older model, the N770. It features a (rumored, faster 320 Mhz ) TI CPU, two SD slots, 128 MB RAM, 256 MB flash storage, 4.1" 800x480 touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphones jack and mini-USB port. On the top of the device you will find the zoom buttons, the fullscreen on/off button and the microphone while on the front of the device there is a 5-way joypad and 3 additional buttons: close application/window, application's menu and task-switch. On the left side there is a retractable VGA video-call camera. Below the device you will find a very practical kickstand, which is very nice if you are using your N800 to watch movies. read more »

Excellent article from a former Newton MessagePad user and software developer -- I recently purchased a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet to replace my aging Newton MessagePad 2100. The MessagePad's touchscreen is going bad and with the advent of Intel Macs, I can no longer do any software development for it. This is what makes the N800 particularly attractive to me: it's a 100% Linux box with phenominal features, and enables me to throw some code around again. read more »

These pictures are the internals of the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. There is really nothing to see inside - it's well engineered and comes apart relatively easy, but there is no undocumented hardware like the Nokia 770's microphone when it was released. read more »
